PSYCHOSIS BOOK LAUNCH – ON A TRAIN?
All aboard! The Psychosis book launch event is confirmed and you’re invited!
So, here we are. Another year. Another book launch.
PSYCHOSIS – my latest psychological thriller about a flawed therapist whose world is turned into a living nightmare – is available from the 30th June 2017. The book launch is currently scheduled for the next day, the Saturday, 1st July 2017.
For me, book launches are like special occasions. The obvious comparison would be a birthday or – if I’m lucky – a wedding (between book and reader). But, most importantly, book launches are a rare opportunity for a writer to meet with his reader.
Now, that is worth celebrating!
Yet, after the success of the UNSPEAKABLE book launch (See STANDING ROOM ONLY), that took place in one of England’s most ancient churches and for which we raised a respectable amount of funds for the Church of the Holy Trinity, I was struggling to think of a suitable and innovative location for the launch of PSYCHOSIS.
But then, as always, the inspiration came from the book itself.
After a spectacularly humiliating event and a shocking ultimatum from his wife, Psychosis’ main protagonist, Marco Battista, is forced to move out of the city and into the house he inherited in the small fishing village of Porthcove.
To get there, Marco boards a train.
That’s right. Some rudimentary research revealed that a book launch on a train isn’t quite the venue of choice. And, there’s probably a reason for that, which of course only made me love the idea even more.
So, always someone up for a challenge, and with just over 4 weeks to go until the launch, we didn’t need to look beyond Cambridgeshire for the ideal location.
The NENE VALLEY RAILWAY is a preserved railway in Cambridgeshire, near Peterborough, and it’s home to Thomas the Tank Engine. It is the first place we contacted and they were more than happy to allow us to host the PSYCHOSIS book launch onboard one of their trains.
That’s right. Not before or after, but as the train clicks, clatters, and puffs through some spectacular countryside.
As always, the event will also double as a fundraiser for Nene Valley Railway which is a wonderful historic and famous site (I understand that scenes for no less than two James Bond movies were shot there).
This is your chance to join me on board one of the vintage steam-powered trains for a book launch experience like no other.
The actual schedule of events is yet to be finalised, but you can expect to arrive around 14:00, check-in with one of the book launch crew before boarding and taking your seat. Then, you’ll be served refreshments before the train sets off through a rolling landscape of countryside and lakes while I read passages from PSYCHOSIS, some of which will most likely sound uncannily familiar to your experience.
After the reading and before disembarking, we’ll get the chance to meet. You will get the opportunity to put your hands on a copy of Psychosis, which I will gladly sign for you, along with other titles from my back catalog.
Remember, this launch is also doubling as a fundraiser, so we’ll be transforming the cafe carriage into a makeshift bookstore featuring copies of Psychosis (of course), but also titles from my back catalog. So, if you’re looking for some unique and personalised gifts, this would be the perfect opportunity, and it’s for a great cause, so please buy generously!
Just remember, we’ll be onboard a vintage train so cash only would be very much appreciated.
Now, while I would love to be able to share this experience with as many of you as
possible, the sad reality is that there are limited seats on a train, which means that while I’m going to invite you to register below, your registration will be subject to confirmation since early take up from the mailing list that went out yesterday was very high.
For this reason, each registration is limited to a maximum of two people who we ask must be 18+ years of age. Once you’re registered, a member of the crew will in touch.
I really hope you can join me for a unique experience not only to celebrate a very important birthday but to help raise funds for a wonderful cause. Oh, and of course, secure your copy of my latest bestseller! 😉
Oh, and if spooky book readings in an equally creepy church are your thing, and you didn’t manage to make it to the Unspeakable book launch. Then fear not, by popular demand, the creepy book reading is returning this Halloween, raising funds for a different church, one made famous by an ITV show of its name; Grantchester. Enough said, for now. If you’d like to know more, be sure to sign up to this blog by entering your email address in the FOLLOW field below. Don’t worry.
